Kentucky-born artist Brad Downey has recently been exploring the Slovenian roots of the US first lady, hoping to erect a monument to her in her native Sevnica.
Through a series of art interventions in the urban space, the artist uses sophisticated humour to interfere with what is socially acceptable. Slapstick Formalism, the title under which he has recently gathered his artistic oeuvre into an extensive printed compilation of the most serious jokes to be found in his artistic endeavours and pranks of the past 20 years, can also be used to define his artistic style. Inspired by objects and activities from his everyday life, including quite some arrests as well, his works in terms of formalities are graffiti, sculptures, videos, performances and art activism wrapped into considerate concepts realised by him around the world.
