Izidor Urbančič (1925–2000)
Above the Horizons
As a part of a series of memorial art exhibitions of lesser-known Slovenian artists, the exhibition presents Izidor Urbančič – artist, painter, sculptor and teacher. The selection of his artwork features a unique intimistic approach to fine art and is a glimpse into the magically intimate paintings from the 1950s and the sublimely playful sculptures created as early as the 1970s.
Izidor Urbančič was born on April 4 1925 in Ljubljana. In 1951, he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana (painting) and enrolled in the postgraduate painting program (under Prof Gabrijel Stupica), which he completed in 1953.
He undertook study trips to France (1955) and Italy (1956). As an art teacher, he taught art education at several secondary schools and educational institutions in Slovenia.
He exhibited in numerous exhibitions and participated in many painting and sculpture symposiums and colonies both in Slovenia and abroad, e.g. in Prilep (1955), Izlake (1963, 1973), Novi Pazar (1976), and Ribnica (1985, 1986), among others.
He created paintings, drawings, sculptures and prints.
He passed away in Ljubljana on 12 February 2000.
