The exhibition continues the tradition in Bežigrad Galleries since 1980 featuring independent and group exhibitions of poets who explored both traditional and visual poetry mostly in the 1970s.
It needs to be pointed out that poems from the exhibition Visual and Concrete Poetry are for the most pari a synthesis of textual and visual ari. Each letter is important, becoming an independent visual symbol and bearer oF meaning. It has precursors as such in pictures oF poetry from antiquity, baroque Figural poetry and the optophonetic vocal poetry of Futurism. The vocal elements and Figura! pictures as poetic material appear in these poems on an equal par with words. We thus also recognise Dadaist textual pictures, which normally totally relativise the semantics oF the text. A letter asa symbol thus obtains pure artistic value: from the co-existence and synthesis oF letters, words, Figural and abstract pictures and visual elements emerge new poetic thought complexes.
The works exhibited in Bežigrad Gallery are for the most pari works of poets and only partially also other artists who have created or stili create in various artistic Fields and also combine or Fuse them. The exhibition presents poets to.us also as visual artists
