Strip Core
Active since the late 1980s, Strip Core is a socially engaged multidisciplinary collective central to Slovenia’s independent art and comics scene. The exhibition presents its legacy and ongoing production, including Stripburger and Svetlobna gverila.
The multidisciplinary art collective has been active continuously since the late 1980s, operating at the intersection of music, comics, visual art, graphic design, and street art. It is marked by strong social engagement and critical reflection. Emerging from the impulses of the alternative music scene and related subcultural movements, it became, during the 1990s, one of the key driving forces in the development of independent visual art, music, and comics production in Slovenia. The collective is characterised by collaborative practices that transcend the traditional divisions between artistic disciplines. In the exhibition, the collective will not be presented merely as a historical phenomenon, but as a living, engaged organism that remains a vibrant platform for experimentation, collaboration, and the production of new values and aesthetic concepts that extend beyond the strictly artistic sphere. The exhibition will provide a comprehensive presentation of its rich history as well as the current production of its members. Emerging from the Strip Core collective, the international authorial comics magazine Stripburger—one of the oldest publications of its kind in this part of Europe—was founded, as well as the cult international festival Svetlobna gverila. Curators: Barbara Sterle Vurnik and Katerina Mirović.
