Emona Returns, exhibition of puppets

2. 4. 2015–14. 6. 2015

On Thursday, 2 April, at 5.00 pm we opened the exhibition of puppets created by preschoolers, school pupils and families for the Little Museum competition. Every received work showed plenty of imagination and interest in how the citizens of Emona lived.
The exhibition will be on display until 14 June 2015.

And how are the Little Museum project and the Emona Returns exhibition presented by their authors, 5th year students of the Majda Vrhovnik Primary School?

“For the second consecutive year, the City Museum of Ljubljana is organising the Little Museum project. This year the museum is collaborating with us, 5th year students at the Majda Vrhovnik Primary School. The project is about fun and learning, but also gave us the opportunity to become collaborators of the Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana for the whole school year. We are learning how the museum works, which professions can you find within the institution and how the ancient Emona functioned. Our meetings are always interesting and fun, regardless of how much work there is to do. We prepared a competition and wrote a project assignment titled Museum professions and their roles. Throughout the year we met with various museum experts: an archaeologist, a curator, a conservator-restorer, museum educators for adults and children, a public relations expert, a documentalist, and the director of the museum. We made interviews with all of them. It was fascinating when each of them presented their line of work, all of them necessary for a normal functioning of the museum. We even got to try our hands at some of these professions.

However, the end result of our collaboration with the Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana is our exhibition of puppets, connected to the life in Emona. We named it Emona Returns. We, the children, designed the playful exhibition with a bit of help from the museum experts. We divided our work into three groups; one took care of the media aspect, one of design, while the third worked on interpretation. All of the puppets were selected through a competition and made by preschoolers, school pupils and families.”

We wish you plenty of enjoyment in our exhibition, Little Museum project team
