Farewell, Factory. Memories of Forgotten Workers
The exhibition Farwell, Factory. Memories of Forgotten Workers presents stories from ten of Ljubljana's factories: Dekorativna Ljubljana fabric factory, Tiskarna Mladinska knjiga printing plant, Pletenina textile factory, Tobačna Ljubljana tobacco plant, Tiskarna Ljudske pravice printing plant, Iron foundry in Šiška, Avtomontaža workshop and the factories of Gorenje Tiki and Rog.
Factory tales do not speak only of profits, losses, products and managers. They are mostly stories of workers, marked not only by the individual, but rather by the collective memory. Industrial workers have a feeling that they built and created together, they were an important part of progress. Today they are forgotten, industrial buildings are being replaced with service companies, commercial buildings and shopping centres. Factory closings are still not completely understood by many among them.
The exhibition was created on the basis of the Farewell, Factory project by Delo Newspaper. The purpose of this project, began in late 2013, is to collect tales and memories of the people that worked in today closed down factories. The Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana collaborated in the project as an expert partner, helped with the development of the exhibition and will store the collected stories for future generations. The Archives of Ljubljana helped the project with its pictorial and informative matter.
The exhibition Farewell, Factory will be on display on the Curve of the City Museum until 5 September, 2014.
