UNESCO - World Heritage

8. 1. 2014–9. 2. 2014

The UNESCO organisation is the focus of this year's first accompanying exhibition of the Wheel - 5,200 Years.

United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation is an organisation specialised in education, science and culture, working in the context of United Nations. In 2011 the pile dwellings from the Ljubljana Moor were inscribed on their prestigious World Heritage List in a joint nomination of the Alpine countries; Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, France and Slovenia.

From January 8 to February 9, 2014, you are invited to an exhibition of the pile dwellings in Germany, prepared by the Landesamt für Denkmalpflege national institute, which is authorised for the management of Germany’s pile dwellings. Boards are presenting all the most important sites and finds from the rich pile-dwelling heritage. You can also read on the ways and methods of management and preservation of the sites. Pile dwellings in Germany are mostly submerged in lakes, where they are principally endangered by erosion and waterborne transport. The exhibition presents 18 sites from the states of Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. Pile dwellings in Germany extend from Lake Constance to Lake Starnberg.
