In developing the design concept for their garments of the project LJBLJNČN, first-year students Maša Vajd and Lovro Kranjc drew upon their research into the life, work and image of two prominent Ljubljana residents, Mila Kačič and Ivan Cankar, whose clothes and accessories form part of the City Museum of Ljubljana’s permanent collection. Maša Vajd conceived an original conceptual sustainable design solution, which she upgraded with a refined artisanal implementation. In the realisation process, she drew on experimental approaches, which allowed her to create coloured surfaces using a number of subsequent interventions. Lovro Kranjc created a complex garment form using a wide array of techniques and unique manual approaches. His work displays great sensitivity to detail and texture. The final garment form brings to view visual effects of more than one meaning, creating a subtle individual expression. Accordingly, the realisation process leads to the finished form being high in quality in both aesthetic and communication terms. The exhibit comes with a video recording created by Loti Kavšek.

BLACK. Coming with a wide range of symbols and associations. Associated with power, elegance, prestige, eroticism, glamour, ... mysterious, simple, sophisticated, austere, virtuous – and always relevant. Christian Dior once said: “You can wear black at any time. You can wear it at any age. You may wear it for almost any occasion”. In this project, second-year students designed a modern version of the black dress, which was to be as timeless, sustainable, innovative and radical as Coco Chanel’s little black dress from the early 20th century, which helped change established societal patterns by offering a fresh and free way of dressing in relation to the body.

The Faculty of Design, an independent higher education institution, was founded in 2005. It offers a 3-year bachelor’s professional higher education study programme and a 2-year master’s study programme. The undergraduate and graduate studies under the DESIGN study programme are available in four study fields: Fashion and Textiles, Interior Design, Visual Communications, and Design Management. Since 2018, a fifth study field, Jewellery, has been accredited in the framework of the undergraduate professional study programme.
