Plečnik Awards 2024: Artefacts
Every year, The Architect Jože Plečnik Foundation announces the Plečnik Awards, the main public recognition of Slovenian authors for their outstanding creations in the fields of architecture, urban planning, landscape architecture or interior design. This year's prize and award winners are presented in an exhibition at the Plečnik House.
This year, the jury of Matej Vozlič (chairman), Blaž Babnik Romaniuk, Matjaž Bolčina, Luka Javornik and Mia Roth Čerina selected one Plečnik Prize, four Plečnik Medals and one student scholarship in the categories: for architectural realisation on a larger scale, for architectural realisation on a smaller scale, for public space, for professional journalism, for enrichment of the spatial culture.
The Plečnik Prize in the category of architectural realisation on a larger scale was awarded to the work SUPERCOVERING THE REMAINS OF THE CHURCH OF ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST IN ŽIČKA KARTUZIJA and its authors Rok Žnidaršič, Jernej Fischer Knap, Sam Mlakar, Katja Ivić and Dino Mujić.
The Plečnik Medal in the category of small-scale architectural realisation was awarded to 2 RENOVATIONS project by Matija Bevk, Vasa J. Perović, Valentin Tribušon, Rok Primažič, Antonia Rubić, Irene Salord Vila.
The Plečnik Medal in the category of public space was awarded to the project FOOTBRIDGE FOR PEDESTRIANS AND CYCLISTS IN IRČA VAS and the authors Blaž Budja, Rok Jereb, Marjan Pipenbaher, Tomaž Weingerl, Dušan Stupar.
The Plečnik Medal for professional journalism was awarded to the English edition of the book GARDEN AND METAPHOR: ESSAYS ON THE ESSENCE OF THE GARDEN, by Ana Kučan and Mateja Kurir.
The Plečnik Medal for the enrichment of spatial culture was awarded to the project of Meta Kutin, for her research, creative and emancipatory work CITY LIVES IN PEOPLE - AN AWARENESS OF SPATIAL CULTURE.
In the end, the jury was also pleased to award a scholarship from the Plečnik Foundation to Neža Brankovič for her master's thesis HOUSE IN THE FIELD, IDEAL DESIGN FOR THE RENOVATION OF THE NATIONAL HOUSE IN TRIESTE.
This year's fifty-first Plečnik Awards ceremony took place in the garden of the Plečnik House in the company of distinguished guests, colleagues, friends and friends of architecture.
The exhibition Plečnik Awards 2024: Artefacts presents the prize-winning works through the core idea of the project. This is materialised through selected fragments that represent the central theme of the creative process or architectural object. Unlike conventional architectural exhibitions, the Artefacts exhibition is not concerned with the objective presentation of architecture and its physical absence in the exhibition spaces, but on the contrary - the idea of the award-winning projective, theoretical and social architectural practices is physically realised in Plečnik House with the exhibited elements.
