Contest Winners of the “Flavours from the Plečnik’s Garden” Travelled to Venice for the Concluding Creative Workshop of the EU Project UpCreate
Between the 14th and 19th of November 2022, Venice hosted the conclusion of the European project UpCreate, with which the MGML also collaborated through the Plečnik House. The project's conclusion was orchestrated by the University of Aalborg, Denmark, and brought together all national winners of the creative competitions that were held throughout the year for youth aged 16–25 years.
Slovenia was represented at the workshop by the winners of the Flavours from the Plečnik’s Garden competition for an original dessert that had been inspired by Plečnik's architecture and the ingredients found in his garden. The winners, Manca Bogataj and Lan Verko, were joined by the curator of the Plečnik House, Ana Porok.
Following the introductory presentations of the partners, national competitions, and their winners, various creative workshops ensued. They inspired all participants to engage in creative collaboration. In smaller groups of threes, participants created five short videos in which they explored the relationship between the environment that surrounds us, food, and its impact on humans in various circumstances.
In their interviews with professor Mark Pimlott, Delft University of Technology, participants reflected on the influence of food on art and the youth’s relation with it in contemporary times. The collected material on the project will be presented in a publication, which was developed simultaneously with the Venice workshop and will be published in the coming days.
The conclusion of the joint workshop and project was an event that was part of the 59th Venice Biennale at the Arsenale. On Saturday, 19 November 2022, at 1.00 p.m. in the Sala de l’Armi, the project leader, Professor Anna Marie Fisker, presented to the public the entire course and significance of the project. Joining her on the stage were also professors Mark Pimlott from the University of Delft and Gennaro Postiglione from the Politecnico di Milano, along with young creators with their choreographed performance.
