Radio play 'Master' performed live for the first time in the garden of Plečnik House
The unique event is also taking place as part of the final event of the EU project Open Atelier.
On this year's Museums On a Summer Night, on Saturday, 21 June 2025, at 9:00 PM, a live radio performance of the text Mojster [ eng: Master] by director and author Jaša Koceli will premiere in the garden of the Plečnik House. The event, which is a co-production of the 3rd programme of Radio Slovenia - Ars and the Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana, brings an audio dedication to the architect Jože Plečnik in the authentic environment of his home in Trnovo.
Creation of the radio play Master was based on Plečnik's extensive correspondence and reveals the architect as a complex personality - a thinker, observer, philosopher and spiritual seeker, who in his letters reflects without embellishment on art, people, spiritual confusion and the conditions of his time. Echoes of his words are surprisingly relevant even today, in a time of uncertainty, emptiness and global confusion.
In 2022, director Jaša Koceli initially staged the text on the terrace of the Gimnazija Jože Plečnik, in production by the Ljubljana City Theatre, and now it will be performed for the first time in a radio format – live, in front of an audience. As the director says: "I don't know if there is anywhere in the world where you can find so many personal traces of an architect who has left such a strong mark on the city."
The curator of the Plečnik House, Ana Porok, also emphasizes the importance of the event: "With the radio play, we want to offer visitors a special experience of a space in which history comes to life in Plečnik's words and his exceptionally rich correspondence, which offers us a deep insight into the world of thought and feelings about the world of this architectural master."
The radio performance will be interpreted by actor Zvone Hribar, the original music was created by Miha Petric, and the creative team also includes dramaturge Kaja Novosel, phonetician Mateja Juričan, and sound engineers Matjaž Miklič and Urban Gruden.
Participation in the event is free, but prior registration is required at the email address: prijava@mgml.si. In case of rain, the event will take place in the conference hall of the City Museum of Ljubljana (Gosposka 15).
The recording of the live performance will be broadcast on the 1st programme of Radio Slovenia, on 1 July at 21:05, during the radio play time.
The radio play Master is the first project in a series of collaborations between Radio Slovenia and the Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana, dedicated to the history of the city. Each radio play will be set in one of Ljubljana's museums or galleries and will deal with important personalities and their inspiring life stories.
