President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel visits Plečnik House
As part of his official visit to Slovenia, the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, visited the Plečnik House yesterday, and stated, “It was an honour to visit the home of the man whose exceptional works marked the Prague Castle…”
Blaž Peršin, Director of the Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana, and Ana Porok, curator of Plečnik House, hosted this important visit. During the visit, they presented the President with numerous interesting details and anecdotes from Plečnik's life. At the conclusion of the tour, they presented him with a comprehensive monograph on the house's renovation. The President was accompanied by representatives of various Czech media, who, like him, were impressed by the house and its significance.
President Pavel left his impressions in the guest book at the end of his visit:
“It was an honour to visit the home of a man whose exceptional works marked the Prague Castle and who met with my predecessor, the first President of the Czech Republic, Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. Thank you for this unique experience and for the guided tour of his home!”
Architect Jože Plečnik is a key connection between Slovenia and the Czech Republic. In both countries, the maestro left an indelible mark with his work, a legacy also recognised by UNESCO, which inscribed parts of his heritage in Prague and Ljubljana on the World Heritage List.
