Blaž Vurnik, Zoran Smiljanić: Plečnik.
The opportunity to discover how perhaps the greatest Slovenian architect, Jože Plečnik, looks like a comic book hero lies in a graphic novel with the simple title 'Plečnik. (with a dot)'.
The authorship of the biographical graphic novel goes to the now well-established comic book duo, consisting of Dr. Blaž Vurnik, curator of contemporary history at the City Museum of Ljubljana, who prepared the detailed script for the graphic novel, and Zoran Smiljanić, a renowned Slovenian comic book artist, who provided the comprehensive, at times even humorous, comic book illustration.
In the graphic novel, Plečnik tells his life story and presents his view on who he was and everything he created to the reader. The time and environment in which he lived and worked, he managed to transcend with bold decisions and dedication to his own ethical and artistic principles. In this work, Plečnik reveals himself as a full-fledged comic book hero with multifaceted personality dimensions, “as an everyman, as proof or a promise that it is possible to rise from the grey mediocrity to vibrant heights”.
