Plečnik. Guidebook for the permanent exhibition at the Plečnik House
On the centenary of architect Jože Plečnik's settlement in his home in the district of Trnovo, which we commemorated in October 2021, a guidebook to the permanent exhibition at Plečnik House was published.
In the guidebook, the author of the exhibition and guide, Ana Porok, Curator of Architecture and Design at the MGML, concisely presents the facts about the life and work of maestro Plečnik.
The reader gets to know Plečnik as a multifaceted artist – architect, urban planner, designer, visionary, professor, and recipient of international commendations – but also as a person, as the guidebook introduces his family and a few select chapters from his private life. The book contains a wealth of Plečnik's quotes and several quotes about him from his contemporaries.
Black-and-white archival photographs from the rich documentation of MGML’s Plečnik Collection give the guidebook a unique tone. While his lesser-known portraits complement biographical milestones in Plečnik’s life, archival photographs of completed projects in Vienna, Prague, Ljubljana, and other locations display the buildings and urban solutions during their construction or immediately after completion. A special chapter also presents the architect’s visions for Ljubljana, which remained unfulfilled for various reasons.
