Eva Šuster
The artist builds her artwork on printmaking and combines it with poetry and painting. Her main techniques are drypoint, etching, reservage and aquatint. This independent exhibition at Bežigrad Gallery 1 features a series of prints from the cycle she has created in recent years. Her memories of her childhood and home environment are etched into her works.
The prints are full of fragments she recalled from her past and imprinted on paper. They resemble snippets of water and shapes from nature. Organic shapes are soft, fluid and undulating. But despite the prints’ softness, every once in a while a gaping emptiness on the paper reminds us of the passing character of everything.
Barely discernible motifs reveal just enough to hint at something concrete. Graphic prints tell a story not told by the artist. In a subtle way she leads us through dark, grey and blueish landscapes reflecting her memories. The past is traced within the emptiness of a particular segment of the paper.
