Fortunately, Glances Leave No Imprints

The exhibition catalogue accompanying the overview exhibition Zora Stančič: Fortunately, Glances Leave No Imprints at the City Art Gallery Ljubljana is more than just a document of the exhibition—it is an independent work of art and a valuable archive of nearly five decades of creation by one of Slovenia’s most important visual artists. Under the curatorship of Sarival Sosič, PhD, the catalogue traces the development of Stančič’s diverse and technically daring approach to printmaking, which transcends the classical boundaries of the medium and opens space for play, association, ambiguity, and deliberate design interventions. The curator’s essay is enriched by two additional perspectives: Božidar Zrinski presents the artist as a creator with a recognisable, subtle, yet lively visual language, while Ajda Ana Kocutar enters Stančič’s world with a sensitivity to the interplay of reflection, image, and language. A distinct tone is added by a selection of poetry by Anja Zag Golob, which extends the visual language of Zora Stančič’s work into the realm of words—words as graphic imprints, as lasting traces. With thoughtful design by Studio Kruh + AA, the catalogue rounds out the exhibition and opens new paths toward understanding the artist’s oeuvre, its scope, materiality, and the witty sensitivity with which Zora Stančič has shaped the field of contemporary Slovenian printmaking for decades.

Born in 1956 in Štrbe, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zora Stančič graduated from the Primary and Secondary School of Design in Ljubljana. In 1984, she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo, and in 1990, she completed her Master’s degree in graphic arts at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana, where she is also employed as an associate professor of graphic arts.
