Spring 2020: news from Italy about the horrifying consequences of the covid-19 epidemic. The virus spread quickly to us. Slovenia comes to a halt. We stay at home, our kitchens and living rooms become offices, classrooms, boardrooms. The streets are empty. Limited to our municipalities, we discover the unknown fragments of nature in the vicinity of our homes …

After more than a year and a half, the City Museum of Ljubljana is setting up the first smaller reflection on the coronatimes, which became thoroughly intertwined with our lives. The exhibition presents works that the museum received and collected, either digitally or physically, as part of the “CORONAPROJECT – When corona goes to the museum” public call, which followed the declaration of an epidemic last year.

The public call was a proactive response by the City Museum to the new reality and an attempt to remain connected with the local community. We knew that this was a historic moment as it was taking place. Thus we all became potential witnesses of history.

The exhibition, with its images of an empty city, tweets, food deliveries, apartment’s setting that became a classroom and an office, confronts its visitors with a time of uncertainty and the new everyday reality, which arrived overnight. A reality that was hitherto unknown to us – but is now already seen as historic.
