Ljubljana Art Weekend: Over coffee about, how the City Museum got a new mural
Join us for a coffee in the courtyard of the City Museum of Ljubljana at the presentation of the project Turni Into The Wall - from the international call for proposals to the realisation of the mural on the museum facade. Jani Pirnat, the project manager and curator of the Match Gallery, will present the temporary mural by the german street artist Krashkid, which decorate the museum's inner courtyard from the end of 2023. You will also see the exhibition of the 10 best solutions submitted at the open call for the mural.
Krashkid's mural Untitled, according to the jury that decided on the best proposal, creates a playful bridge between the exterior and interior of the City Museum of Ljubljana and gives a new function to the existing elements of the building. At the same time, it also makes good use of the facade itself, which is accessed by a curve that leads nowhere and the window element.
"I understand my proposal as a homage to the museum as a place of encounter and communication. Object, exhibitor, and viewer enter into a discourse. This can be formative, appreciative, challenging or even brief and fleeting. As versatile as the visitors of a museum are, as multilayered can be the experience of an exhibition visit," the artist wrote about his work.
Jani will also present the exhibition of the 10 best proposals submitted to the international call for proposals for the mural Turn Into The Wall. This one was carried out at the Matc Gallery and the City Museum of Ljubljana (MGML) between May and September 2023. The aim of the call was to make the interior facade of the City Museum of Ljubljana more meaningful and to integrate it into the image of the museum's inner courtyard with a mural. The call attracted the attention of 136 artists from all over the world.
