On the Line of Flight – Towards Possible Worlds

Exhibition of Contemporary Montenegrin art

23. 9. 2025–2. 11. 2025

The exhibition On the Line of Flight – Towards Possible Worlds is a project by Teodora Nikčević and Anja Marković, curators at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro. It brings together works by Montenegrin artists of the younger and mid-career generations who work outside the established categories of conventional art forms. Their curatorial approach is clearly defined by last year's exhibition Living Images, which was part of a broader project of the aforementioned museum titled Montenegro Today.

The current exhibition is a multimedia, multifaceted and nonlinear lattice that expands and intertwines from its core according to the concept of lines of flight, as explored by Deleuze and Guattari in their work A Thousand Plateaus: Capitalism and Schizophrenia (1980). They define these lines as mental impulses that develop creatively in connection with many other co-existing mental impulses, with the aim of generating new ways of thinking.

The interactive installations, digital images and hybrid video works presented in the exhibition decode traditional frameworks relating to the body, identity, ecology, media and even authorship itself, while establishing new relationships and codes. Their interaction forms a network of novel meanings.

The exhibition offers a broader insight into contemporary Montenegrin society through the works of selected artists, who explore a range of issues, including social, identity, religious, political, and deeply personal, intimate conflicts that individuals carry within themselves and that characterise their society. The common thread linking all the works is clear: a departure from the established, traditional, and generally accepted toward something new and possible – both in terms of thinking and the materialization of ideas.

In a time where technology, body and identity are increasingly blurred, the goal is clear: not escaping reality, but finding the cracks and spaces to imagine alternative ways of being, perceiving and creating.

You are warmly invited to attend the opening of the exhibition of contemporary Montenegrin art On The Line Of Flight – Towards Possible Worlds at 6 p.m on Tuesday, 23 September 2025 at the Match Gallery, Ljubljana. The exhibition will be inaugurated by PHD Vladislav Šćepanović, Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro.
