Ljubica Čehovin - Suna: How to Draw a City?
The exhibition project How to Draw a City? connects two exhibition sites: Plečnik House and Kresija Gallery. The common denominator of both exhibition spaces is Ljubica Čehovin - Suna, a designer whose projects constantly address questions of cultural and natural heritage, values, patriotism, and identity.
The exhibition at Kresija Gallery will showcase the designer's graphic prints and objects. It speaks of the importance of a souvenir in an identity of a certain space through a personal and simultaneously socially critical relation of an archaeologist towards the city, state, and the world in which she exists. It speaks of reading the city and its symbols, signs, structures, mythologies, faces, etc., and of their translation into a clear visual language, printed on archetypical shapes of everyday objects. Umbrellas, aprons, t-shirts, cups, folders, notebooks, brooches, or textiles, with their carefully selected motifs, therefore represent a specificity, a fragment of a location. Simultaneously they also address human relations and people inhabiting a certain location. Through her idiosyncratic art forms, Ljubica Čehovin - Suna instills small objects with various layers of time and space, and with the extraordinary and the everyday.
The simultaneous exhibition at the Plečnik House will highlight the designer's reason for the creation of the souvenir collection Breakfast with Plečnik.
Both exhibitions are opening on 17 May 2018, and will be on view:
Plečnik House: 17 May–30 September 2018
Kresija Gallery: 17 May–3 June 2018
