International group exhibition

Evidence

20. 6. 2019–8. 9. 2019

The exhibition "Evidence" will repeat the selective approach of "Utopia/Dystopia" (2017), by basing its selection of artists on the operational programme that the Tobacco 001 Cultural Centre has implemented over the last seven years.

Covering all three levels of operations of the said gallery, which has put on show over fifty exhibition projects, the selected authors are artists coming both from Slovenia and abroad who presented themselves on the completion of their two-month artist residency, as well as Slovenian artists who were selected through their participation in MGML’s public invitations to participate in artist-in-residency abroad. The exhibition will feature an international palette of contemporary artists who reflect on the complex issues of modern society: failed social experiments that have led to the dehumanization of living conditions, the rise and fall of totalitarian states, tensions created by post-colonial immigration, being locked in technological determinism and social media, as well as destruction in the name of progress. In this regard, they deal with the daily reality, drawing both on utopian ideas as well as idealism and cynicism inspired by it.
