Murmuring is barely audible, a hidden sound, like a revolution on a molecular level in the world that surrounds us”, emphasises curator Ali Akay. He is keeping a vigilant eye over the group show of the three Turkish artists that are currently being presented at the City Art Gallery of Ljubljana. If murmuring is to be paralleled with the rustling of leaves, artists Seza Paker, Ayşe Erkmen and Ali Kazma are also all emitting their quiet voices. “By researching social mechanisms they do not limit themselves by just the immediate events in their local environment. Their space is much wider, and it includes archaeology, ecology and bureaucracy,” Akay defines the frames of the exhibition. “Due to their lives in various European capitals, all three artists are first and foremost travellers and after that Turkish authors, warns the curator when he defines the context of contemporary visual art in Turkey.”
