City Art Gallery will hosts the most comprehensive exhibition of Ivan Kožarić in Slovenia
“The City Art Gallery of Ljubljana welcomes the opportunity to host such a large exhibition of one of the greatest Croatian artists. This will actually be his whole oeuvre, yet to be presented in such grand scope in Slovenia. With this exhibition, the City Art Gallery of Ljubljana is proving to be an ever more prominent institution within the international field of contemporary art, capable of hosting the biggest names of the European art world,” emphasized Blaž Peršin, Director of the Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana.
On Thursday 23 February at 8.00 p.m., the City Art Gallery of Ljubljana will be opening the overview exhibition of Ivan Kožarić - one of Croatia’s most important artists, and certainly its most eminent living artist and author of numerous public monuments. The exhibition, which will present as many as 200 of Kožarić’s works, among them sculptures, installations, drawings and fabrics, will be a collaboration between the City Art Gallery of Ljubljana and the Croatian Museum of Modern Art.
The statement from Ivan Kožarić, “I always present the public with the Truth. I am naked and with nothing to hide. I submit all of my intimate experience,” proved to be completely true, when it comes to his modus operandi. When the ownership of the studio where he had been working changed, he basically left everything there. His artworks, personal belongings – including hiss bills, clothes and letters – this was all once part of his creative chaos. The Kožarić Studio, today part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb, displays most of these artefacts, with some still remaining hidden inside the boxes and drawers of the museum.
