A fresh view on Plečnik and his architecture in a new publication and exhibition

We are concluding the first half of Plečnik Year with a fresh new book on Plečnik's life and work, written by Dr. Noah Charney, and the photographic exhibition Ljubljana, a City with Plečnik's Signature at the Jakopič Promenade (designed by Plečnik!) in Tivoli Park, Ljubljana. Both events, the book presentation and exhibition opening, will take place on Thursday 15 June 2017.

Two interesting events will thus take place on Thursday 15 June.

At 11.00 a.m. at the Plečnik House, we are presenting the newly published book
Eternal Architect: The Life and Art of Jože Plečnik, Modernist Mystic by the American author Dr. Noah Charney, who has been living and working in Slovenia. The monograph has been simultaneously published in English and Slovenian with the title Večni arhitekt: Življenje in delo Jožeta Plečnika, modernističnega mistika. The new, easy to read and accessible work brings us a contemporary view on Plečnik through the lens of an American expert. The eternal architect and modernist mystic stands out in his human dimension. The comprehensive work uses Plečnik’s creations to bring us closer to the architect’s life story, whether in Vienna, Prague or in Ljubljana.

The book was published under patronage of the MGML and includes a foreword written by Dr. Peter Krečič. At the morning presentation we will be joined by Blaž Peršin, director of Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana, book author Dr. Noah Charney, editor Luka Novak, graphic designer Domen Fras and photographer Matevž Paternoster.

On the very same day, at 7.00 p.m., a new exhibition is opening at the Jakopič Promenade in Tivoli Park. Titled Ljubljana, a City with Plečnik’s Signature, the exhibition highlights and connects two interesting views. On one side are the black-and-white photos of photographer Peter Naglič, taken in the 1920s and 1930s. They show precious moments when Plečnik’s Ljubljana was being constructed. To balance them out, these older photos will be joined by contemporary photographs taken by Matevž Paternoster that illuminate and expand our perspective of Plečnik’s architectural creations.

The exhibition is a collaboration between the Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana and Ljubljana Tourism. Opening of the exhibition will be done by Zoran Janković, Mayor of (Plečnik’s) Ljubljana and Blaž Peršin, Director of Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana.
