To Split for the exhibition Plečnik on Brioni

On the initiative of the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia Zagreb, the exhibition Plečnik on Brioni has been visiting Croatian cities for the past two years. At the start of April you can catch it in Split, while at the end of May on the Brioni Islands.

Dalmatian audiences are being acquainted with the works of architect Jože Plečnik at two events. On Wednesday 3 April at 12.30 pm, the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Geodesy (FGAG) in Split is hosting Professor Robert Plejić, who will give a lecture on Plečnik's projects in Split. On Friday 5 April at 6.00 pm, the exhibition Plečnik on Brioni is opening at the eminent Southeaster Tower of Diocletian’s Palace in Split. The exhibition, sponsored by the Ambassador of Slovenia Ms. Smiljana Knez, PhD, and Slovenia’s Honorary Consul Mr Branko Roglić, will only stay in Split for a short period – it ends on 15 April.

Since the Plečnik Year 2017, the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Croatia has been actively promoting Plečnik’s heritage in Croatia through the exhibition Plečnik on Brioni, a 2017 coproduction of the Plečnik House and the National and University Library. The travelling exhibition, which has hitherto already been to Zagreb, Varaždin, Osijek, and Karlovac, will finish its journey at the end of this year’s May at the most appropriate location – the Brioni Islands.

The exhibition Plečnik on Brioni was made possible by a valuable donation from Dr. Lojze Gostiša to the Manuscript Collection and Early Printed Collection of the National and University Library. It disclosed hitherto unknown original plans of Plečnik's last completed project, with photographs of Plečnik’s visits to the Brioni Islands. Among them are also Plečnik’s last portraits, taken in autumn of 1956. The exhibition is complemented by Dr. Gostiša's personal testimony on the circumstances that contributed to the development of this project, which is now Plečnik’s symbolic testament. A new section of the exhibition focusing on Plečnik’s heritage and his unrealised projects in Croatia has been integrated into the original exhibition for this tour of Croatian cities.

We are also inviting you to watch the conversation with Dr. Lojze Gostiša. The video was produced for the exhibition Plečnik on Brioni:
