Burma – the land of modern stilt houses
Dr. Tomaž Podobnikar's photo exhibition focuses on glimpses of life in the surroundings of Burma’s shallow lakes, where people developed real pile dwellings and surrounded them with floating gardens.
The exhibition guides us through Burma, or Myanmar, into a very much different world from the one we know from its neighboring more developed countries, such as Thailand, India or China. Burma is a sunny land, filled with smiling and colourful people of various ethnicities. Especially picturesque are the secluded areas where people live in friendly communities without electricity and their means of transportation are limited to their feet or riding bullock carts and boats.
The exhibition focuses on life in the surroundings of shallow lakes where people developed real pile dwellings and surrounded them with floating gardens. On his many travels, the author of the exhibition has been overwhelmed with the uniqueness of nature, fragments of people’s everyday lives and especially their achievements. Glimpses from Burma bring us closer to the lives of pile dwellers at the Ljubljana Moors more than 5000 years ago.
