Up Close 2023: Starting with the necessity of visual literacy in the 21. century
The first workshop is open to the general public
The new series of the Up Close: Photography as a Way of Seeing workshops starts with a two-day workshop open to the general public. The introductory lecture Thinking Eye: Starting with the necessity of visual literacy in the 21. century will be given by Saša Kralj, a photojournalist based in Croatia who has turned to writing and mentoring. Join us!
The first two-day Up Close workshop, which will take place on Friday and Saturday, 20 and 21 January 2023, will offer opportunities for conscious looking in the process of photography, reflection on the meaningfulness and significance of one's own photographic process, and awareness of the relationships that are important in the process of taking and distributing photographs.
This basic level workshop will engage the participants in training their visual literacy, while sharpening not only their photographic but also their critical view of everything that goes on around us.
At the introductory lecture Thinking Eye on Friday, 20 January, at 6 pm Saša Kralj will speak about the fact that photography is not just pressing the shutter button, but a reflection on the role of human anatomy, the subconscious, the mind and emotions in the process of looking and seeing.
Join us and meet the other mentors and participants of this year's workshop!
Entrance fee for the lecture by Saša Kralja is 3 € / free for members of the Friends of the Jakopič Gallery
After the lecture, the programme will be open only to those enrolled in the Up Close 2023 study group.
It is also possible to attend the entire first two-day workshop (20 and 21 January) for 125 € / person. Registrations will be accepted until Thursday 19 January 2023 at prijava@mgml.si, where we are also available for further information.
