Journey Is Practice Is Journey Is…
The end chasing the beginning semantically, thus creating ever new meanings and paths in turn, the title of the exhibition indicates an experience of travelling, maybe even vagabonding, which is typical of the experiential creative practice of Metod Blejec.
Having spent twelve years in Great Britain where he earned his master’s degree from the Slade School of Fine Art (UCL), London, he moved on to Ljubljana and is now presenting his work in a solo exhibition in the Match Gallery.
“All artists are alike. They dream of doing something more social, more collaborative, and more real than art,” the words by Dan Graham also apply to Metod. An experimental artist, designer, photographer and educator, he is currently exploring the strategies of idleness and movement as an artistic sensory experience. Among others, he follows the example of the “walking artists” Hamish Fulton and Richard Long who seek to experience the path and freely create ephemeral works along the way in the landscape of their journey, also leaving behind the related documentation.
Also typical of Metod's artistic activity is integration – interweaving – of artistic practices and a methodology that is based on a close collaboration with his artistic colleagues Dafne Louzioti (GR/GB), Scott Schwager (US/GB), Taja Topolovec (SI) and Una Rebić (HR/SI). The exhibition is composed of two parts: the archive presents eight empirical actions of previous journeys, and the dynamic part, made with the mentioned co-authors, consisting of 11 public motor and mental experiments for the active public. These will be experimented during the exhibition as scheduled.
The exhibition agenda and an invitation to participate in artistic actions will be presented at the opening reception on Tuesday 10 April 2018 at 7 p.m. The closing installation of the results of all “journeys” will be put on display on Thursday 3 May 2018 at 7 p.m.
