She consciously adopts the visual language of a theatre or film scene because that is the only medium with a broad enough span to cater to all of Dejana’s requirements. She places actors into a carefully conceived mise-en-scène and instructs them to freeze certain gestures and facial expressions. In appropriate costumes and stage settings, they conjure up the "commonplace", the generally known, mostly festive, events in family life. Each scene is a thematic entity with numerous information, more or less easily recognisable.

Dealing with the urban milieu to which she herself belongs – Dejana follows a kind of romanticised, but essentially controversial construction of time and place: her characters and their age remain unchanged throughout the scenes staged in different times. However, the external factor of time extends to the category of chronology and the ten scenes immortalised by the camera represent ten different temporal situations corresponding to the sum of a century’s decades. Dejana’s goal is clear – to reconstruct authentic colours of each decade of the twentieth century. And she is consistent in this: after their final treatment, the appearance and basic characteristics of the shots recall the technical and technological possibilities of photography in the represented epoch.
