Tilen Sepič: SNR
Tilen Sepič’s solo exhibition offers an insight into the diverse artistic practice of a versatile creator, a community builder and a mentor to several generations of young artists. Presented through three spatial installations, the exhibition thoughtfully builds the experience through acoustics, light, and kinetics.
The exhibition at Match Gallery will be the first public presentation of installations created for a gallery space, which have been taking shape over an extended period through the artist’s reflections, conversations, dreams, and numerous collaborations with other creators. At a time when we are exposed to an overwhelming number of sensory stimuli and carried along by a rushing stream of information, Tilen Sepič’s exhibition SNR invites us to pause–as we observe and listen to systems.
SNR, an abbreviation for signal-to-noise ratio, refers in science and engineering to the measurement of the ratio between desired signals and noise, while also determining the maximum amount of data that can be reliably transmitted through a given communication channel.
Sepič’s SNR plays with the relationships between signals from the environment and our perception, and with the gradients of clarity and noise that emerge in the space between them.
The exhibition is co-produced with the Ljudmila Art and Science Laboratory, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia and the City of Ljubljana.
