First Gentleman of Slovenia and the Ambassador of the Czech Republic visited the Plečnik House

Today, the Plečnik House had the honour of welcoming two distinguished guests: Dr Aleš Musar, First Gentleman of the Republic of Slovenia, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Slovenia, Jiří Kuděla. Both guests visited the current exhibition 'Plečnik and Ljubljana: Shaping Open Space' in the company of Blaž Peršin, Director of the Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana, Ana Porok, Curator of the Plečnik House, and the exhibition’s author, Darja Pergovnik, MA, from the IPCHS.

The common thread of the engaging conversation during the visit to the exhibition was how to connect and open new views, similar to what Plečnik achieved in architecture and urban design. Plečnik accomplished this through greenery, symmetry and asymmetry, as well as through establishing new road and pedestrian connections, and careful consideration of the existing ones.

Our conversation also touched on connecting Prague and Ljubljana, the indelible mark that Plečnik unquestionably left on both cities and the opportunity that these two cities have to reconnect time and time again based on Plečnik's legacy.

At the forefront of the visit was, naturally, our wish to bring the architect’s legacy closer and more accessible to the local communities that live with it. We spent a pleasant morning in each other’s company, engaged in lively debate and optimistic opportunities for new collaborations. We thank both guests for their visit and we hope to meet again soon!
