93rd ADC

1. 9. 2015–11. 10. 2015

While the Art Directors Club has already closed the call for entries for ADC 94th Annual Awards creative solutions in the fields of advertising, corporate design, graphic design, animation, photography, illustration and interactive design, the 93rd ADC, showcasing last year’s winners of gold and silver awards, is now visiting Ljubljana’s Match Gallery for the fifth consecutive time.

In 2014, the international jury presented silver and gold awards to the winning projects which are to be shown in an exhibition in the Vžigalica Gallery. Several of them, relating in particular to design and advertising, were also seen in Slovenia: winning several awards (for advertising and interactivity) was The Epic Split viral web ad created by Forsman & Bodenfors for Volvo Trucks. In this ad, the former action movie star Jean-Claude Van Damme performs a full split between two reversing Volvo trucks, demonstrating the stability and precision of Volvo Dynamic Steering. Two awards in advertising were given to campaigns for Old Spice. One of the ads, i.e. Momsong (MJZ) is also known to the Slovenian audience. In the three versions of the ad, all of them touching wittily on the phenomenon of "mom’s boys", moms mourn as their sons using the Old Spice body sprays turn into real men irresistible to women. The gold award winners also involved socially responsible actions: Mimi Foundation was awarded for its project If Only for a Second (Leo Burnett France), in which cancer patients were given a moment free from worry and depression. The participating patients were told they would be given makeovers and were asked to keep their eyes closed during the process. When they finally opened their eyes, “images of surprise and delight” were captured by photographers. There followed a photo exhibition which attracted many visitors and a catalogue.

Art Directors Club is an association of leading creative professionals engaged in visual communications around the world. ADC members share the vision of its founder, Louis Pedlar, who brought together his colleagues in advertising in 1920 to raise the reputation of their profession and to judge advertising art by the same stringent standards as fine art. For over ninety years, ADC members have taken up Pedlar’s challenge by funding programmes to connect, motivate and elevate creative professionals around the world who work in advertising, design and interactive media. Apart from the ADC prizes, the club also annually awards the Young Guns prize, which is aimed at promoting younger generations of creatives (aged 30 or under, with at least two years of professional experience) and facilitating progress and development in their creative careers.
