exhibition of the best design and advertising solutions in 2010

89th ADC and 8th ADC YOUNG GUNS

11. 3. 2011–10. 4. 2011

ADC – Art Directors Club is a not-for-profit membership organisation, established in New York in 1920, which holds competitions for the best design and advertising solutions. Last year's 89th ADC exhibition is held in Slovenia for the second time, along with the 8th ADC Young Guns exhibition.

The exhibition includes 75 recipients of the Golden and Silver Cubes, selected by an international jury. The exhibition presents printed and broadcast advertisements, interactive and graphic designs, photography, packaging, work carried out by students, illustrations, posters and advertising campaigns.

The exhibited items fall into the following categories: Advertising, Design, Photography, Illustration, Interactive Design, Students, as well as a Hybrid and Design Sphere. In 2010, the international jury awarded 264 Golden, Silver and Bronze Cubes. Among the winners of the Golden and Silver awards, a special mention must go to the Prolam Y&R agency who worked on an advertisement for Colgate (Chile) in the PRINTED ADVERTISEMENTS category; in the POSTERS AND BILLBOARDS category, the Chinese agency, JWT Shanghai, received an award for the advertisement entitled Shan Shui, with the client being CEPF. In the CORPORATE AND PROMOTIONAL DESIGN category, the work carried out by Purpose – a British agency – which received the Golden award, excels in establishing the corporate identity of the EFFP. The Golden award in the STUDENTS category was bestowed upon the students of the California College of the Arts, USA, for the design of the school book entitled Visualising the Invisible. BBDO, based in New York, USA, received the Golden award for their work entitled Cube Film Installation in the ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN category; the client was HBO.

The Art Directors Club is an association of leading global names who work in visual communications. The members of the ADC share their vision with the club's founder, Louis Pedlar, who in 1920 brought his colleagues – who were all working in advertising at the time – together. The purpose of the association was to define the profession and evaluate advertising according to strictly set standards in the field of art. Even after 89 years, the ADC members still find Pedlar's ideas challenging when attempting to create programmes which connect, provoke and encourage creative individuals all over the world. These programmes deal with the areas of advertising and design, as well as the realm of interactive media. Every year, the ADC grants Annual Awards and Young Guns awards, which serve to encourage young creative professionals and facilitate their further progress and development. The Travelling Exhibition, which is now showing for the second time in succession in Slovenia, is only one of the activities being held to enhance creative excellence at a global level.
