Jesenice

The city of Jesenice often has a unique and stereotypical image in the eyes of the general public, which is linked to its long industrial history, its transitional geographical location and demographics, the visual characteristics of the urban area, its distinct local identity as well as hockey tradition. In this exhibition, we try to go beyond these notions and offer diverse subjective perspectives on Jesenice through the works of artists who have family ties to the city. The central subject is thus the image of the city, which the artists reconstruct in their individual artistic expressions through nostalgia and memories of their childhood, their family history, the stories told by other residents and the current relationship they have with the city, without ignoring the existing stereotypical characteristics of the industrial urban area.

Using a variety of media, from photography, drawing and painting to spatial installations, artists from different generations Jaka Gasar, IRWIN (Miran Mohar), Ema Klinar, Tanja Radež and Helena Tahir present their personal view of the city of Jesenice, which they left at a certain point, and now return to, remember and experience in different ways.
