Match Gallery, which offers exhibition space to regional art initiatives, presents the fourth edition in the exhibition cycle Ljubljana Bows to Slovenia. This time we invited the Universitätskulturzentrum UNIKUM to participate. The centre has been producing contemporary art projects outside the established cultural institutions since 1987. It is considered a space of applied art production, which connects artistic practices with creative research. Its activity is focused on topics of social processes, while geographically, the events are concentrated in the triangle of Carinthia, Slovenia and Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Their venues are mostly unusual locations, often urban as well as rural public spaces.
Many of their projects are collaborations with similar cultural institutions, such as ROŽ Cultural Society from Šentjakob in Rož, or the unique theatre group VADA from Klagenfurt. Both of these groups are known for their politically consistent positions and innovative art productions. The COUNTER:MOVEMENT| GEGEN:BEWEGUNG exhibition presents the works of artists who have repeatedly collaborated with these institutions. The title on one hand refers to the dissident position of the participating artists and cultural initiatives, and on the other hand calls for us to pause from time to time to rethink and reevaluate our path.
