On the occasion of the centenary of this key Suprematist object of early twentieth-century historical avant-garde art, City Art Gallery Ljubljana is hosting a themed group exhibition presenting a selection of artists from the territories of our former common country of Yugoslavia.

Artists presented at the exhibition: academic painter and interdisciplinary artist Miha Vipotnik, comic book author Iztok Sitar, academic painter Silvester Plotajs Sicoe, academic painter Vladimir Leben, academic painter, philosopher and comic book author Izar Lunaček, academic painter Barbara Jurkovšek, graduated photographer Manca Juvan and photographer Matjaž Rušt.

Following the first presentation of Bojan Gorenec’s work at the Museum of Modern Art (Moderna Galerija, Ljubljana) in 1990 (entitled Painting 1982–1990), "How Paintings Emerge (Paintings 1979–2014)" exhibition is one of the major artist's exhibitions; the catalogue will include a theoretical essay by the artist on the status of painting today as well as a study by Dr. Tomislav Vignjević. 

The exhibition features artists: Dušan Tršar, Jiři Bezlaj, Saba Skaberne, Vera Stanković, Paola Korošec, Primož Pugelj, Tomaž Furlan and Boris Beja. The exhibition is part of the thematic series of exhibitions that analyse contemporary Slovenian sculpture. With a selected and refined concept these exhibitions put emphasis on the structure, form, composition, the variety of themes and materials and spatial possibilities of sculpture.

The Lebanese artist Rabih Mroué is active as an actor, theatre director, playwright and, not least, as a visual artist. It was this segment of his multi-faceted production that has been repeatedly presented in a number of important international manifestations of contemporary art. The personal experience of war and unrest, the result of the unstable political situation and social upheaval, is reflected in his body of work directly or through his astute interpretation.

The visual and sound display comprises (mostly new) site-specific installations and representations of stages of works-in-progress by acclaimed artists, creators and visionaries of a “universal mind”, working for decades under the umbrella term “art in search of infinity” and focusing on subjects pertaining to the broad cosmological repertory.

This exhibition, "O čem govorim, ko govorim o..." (What I talk about when I talk about...) in the City Art Gallery Ljubljana is without doubt the most extensive and most complex display of Rene Rusjan's creations and work to this day. It reveals the fundamentals of her poetics, which are, predominantly, raising awareness by means of real, direct activity. Transforming her art into a personal culture, what we might, perhaps, call art as a form of self-giving, or an act that manifests within the creative process as an ongoing event that spans the years, a process, authorial meditation perpetually in the making.

Taking the form of a repeat presentation of his "Die Welt ist schön" project staged at the ŠKUC Gallery in Ljubljana in 1982, Mandić’s first solo appearance after thirty years of exhibiting and working exclusively with Irwin again offers a view of a segment of his early artistic production. He made the series of images-interventions on standard postcards, crosses, and letters during his one-year stint of military service in Niš.

The artist’s involvement in space reaches beyond the physical limitations of the gallery. Every exhibition project presents a new challenge. Specific layout of the City Art Gallery Ljubljana comprising several floors has led to careful consideration of the most harmonious spatial organization and to the final decision to use only one floor, on which the exhibited works from several periods will be brought together into an autonomous visual whole.

How does television – that omnipresent, one-way disseminator of imagery, information, and ideology – affect our daily lives and inform our view of reality?

Is it even still possible to find and deliberate on happiness in contemporary art, in a world full of fear and uncertainty? Is happiness still present, has it disappeared, is it reappearing or waning away, does it bare its image or does it cover it with other, worthier and more dramatic themes and subjects?

An Exhibition marks the 50th anniversary of the central Ljubljana art gallery, which has left an indelible mark on the history of Slovenian culture with its distinctive program features and made its place in the wider art world with its ramified, internationally conceived program of exhibitions.

The exhibition “Against Art. Goran Djordjević: Copies 1979–1985” is a joint project of Goran Djordjević and the curatorial team that present the works of this body of work through two different exhibition formats: reconstruction and contemporary installation.

Painter Milan Erič’s retrospective exhibition at the City Art Gallery Ljubljana (The Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana) is the most extensive overview of his artistic output to date. It is conceived as a visually dynamic display of a selected series of drawings, paintings, and objects that the artist often combines, intertwines, adds to, takes apart, or jumbles up, depending on the exhibition space and the exhibition composition as a whole.

On the occasion of the European Football Championship, City Art Gallery Ljubljana is preparing an exhibition on the theme of football and art.

This exhibition comprises selected works by a number of prominent Slovene sculptors of different generations.

"Sandi Červek has created abstract paintings using only black since 1989. Since they might seem to be sad and hermetic people do not usually relish such works at first sight, however history, especially of modern art knows quite a few artists who devoted themselves to such technique."
