You are invited to join us at the regular Saturday guided tour of the Aïda Muluneh: On the Edge of Past Future exhibition.

On the occasion of the conference and as part of the cultural programme of the Africa Day 2025, organised by the Department for Africa and the Middle East of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, and in the context of the exhibition by contemporary Ethiopian photographer Aïda Muluneh, On the Edge of Past Future, an interdisciplinary roundtable discussion titled Art, Nature, and Sustainability: Rethinking Africa's Natural Resources through Creativity will take place at the Jakopič Gallery on Thursday, 29 May 2025, at 6 p.m.

As part of Ljubljana Art Weekend, on Saturday, 24 May 2025, at 4.30 p.m., we invite you to an expert guided tour of the exhibition of the contemporary Ethiopian artist Aïda Muluneh with the curator and art director of the Jakopič Gallery Dr Marija Skočir. Aïda's staged photographs, full of symbolism, vibrant colours and bold patterns, tend to reflect and raise awareness.

Take part in a free guided tour with the curator Dr Marija Skočir of the photography exhibition of contemporary Ethiopian photographer Aïda Muluneh as part of the International Museum Day - ICOM Slovenia. Each of Aïda's photographs is carefully designed to provoke reflection and transcend the boundaries of conventional documentary or artistic photography. If you' ll be wandering around the galleries and museums in the morning, you are also welcome to try your hand at creating light paintings between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The workshop is suitable for visitors of all ages!

Drawing on modern Ethiopian art and contemporary Ethiopian literature, which will serve as a framework for the interpretation of motifs and themes in Aïda Muluneh's imaginary and work, Aleksandra Gačić's lecture will think more broadly about the socio-political contexts in which art is produced through a range of Ethiopian theorists. In parallel, the lecture will shed light on important aspects of Ethiopian production of knowledge, art and literature.

This year's Photo Aperitivo will be dedicated to the culture and flavours of the country where photographer Aïda Muluneh is from. Through the literature of contemporary Ethiopian authors translated into Slovenian interpreted by the actor and musician Joseph Nzobandora - Jose and accompanied by the music of percussionist Damir Mazrek we will discover Aïda's native Ethiopia and other African countries. The event will be rounded by the tasting of a traditional Ethiopian snack and the aroma of coffee, which originates from this very country.

On Tuesday, 11 March 2025, at 6 p.m., we invite you to the Jakopič Gallery for an online conversation with the contemporary Ethiopian artist Aïda Muluneh, whose photographs are presented in the exhibition On the Edge of Past Future. Her works invite us to explore the complexities of Africa beyond the clichés often presented in the media, encouraging a deeper understanding of its challenges and resilience. You are invited to get to know her better!

You are warmly invited to the opening of the Aïda Muluneh: On the Edge of Past Future exhibition, which will begin with a guided tour by prof. Celina Lunsford, Artistic Director of Fotografie Forum Frankfurt and curator of the exhibition, at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, 25 February 2025 at Jakopič Gallery. The exhibition will be inaugurated at 7 p.m. by Mateja Demšič, MA, Head of Culture Department, City of Ljubljana.
