Exhibition Rainbow Explosion by young photographer Nal Kocjan on view in Cerkno

Nal Kocjan is a young artist and activist committed to making the world a better place through art. He is a second-year student of photography at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design at the University of Ljubljana and participated in the Photography Empowers masterclass with the internationally renowned American photographer on the occasion of the Susan Meiselas: Mediations exhibition at the Jakopič Gallery.

At the masterclass supported by the U.S. Embassy Ljubljana, Nal, together with Susan Meiselas, photography experts Lydia Matthews and Luciana Pinchiero and other participants, developed a project focusing on the local drag queen scene. Nal sees documenting this scene as an opportunity to highlight its artistic and cultural significance, which extends beyond mere entertainment. More broadly, his work often addresses LGBTQIA issues.

We are pleased to announce that Nal will present a selection of his recent works from the last year and a half in the exhibition Rainbow Explosion at C.M.A.K. from 15 December 2023 to 14 January 2024.

According to the Cerklje Club, Nal loves strong contrasts of colour and light, with portraits being his strong point. In this photo exhibition, he also presents his creative portraits, aiming to "show people the world of rainbow individuals and encourage them to embrace diversity". The exhibition is part of the club's exhibition cycle entitled Youth in the Stairway.
