The Jakopič Gallery is presenting the exhibition of Maria Bonomi – the most eloquent advocate of the creative power of contemporary printmaking
As part of the 32nd Biennial of Graphic Arts, the exhibition "Printmaking Forever", by the internationally renowned Brazilian artist Maria Bonomi, is presented at the Jakopič Gallery. With her modus operandi, with her "graphic philosophy" as Maria Bonomi calls her creative process, texts and public appearances, Maria is the most eloquent advocate of the creative power of contemporary printmaking.
Maria Bonomi mostly works in the fields of printmaking and sculpture, but also does installation art, murals, production design and artists’ books. Maria Bonomi’s contemporary prints are rarely just sheets of graphic paper. Her works expand into space, bursting across their frames. They exist as matrices that never underwent the printmaking process and are complex graphic installations on their own. The author described her creative process so, "printmaking is a creative process through which the idea, execution and realisation develop constantly. I never considered the spread of graphic arts, I only ever followed the infinite hidden possibilities in its core." Recognising graphic qualities everywhere; within traces in the sand, coal seams, abrasions on a rock, is what manifests in the artist's works.
