AVA 005: Degree Show

4. 7. 2013–4. 7. 2013

Academy of Visual Arts in Ljubljana (AVA) is presenting the exhibition of works of the third generation of AVA's graduating students of their two degree programs, Conceptualization of Space and Fine Arts, who successfully finished their studies in the 2012/13 academic year.

"The message I would like to convey to our students, the third graduating class of the Academy of Visual Arts – AVA, is this: I admire their perseverance, especially at a time when their hard work and consistency were often compromised by the prevailing general apathy and the poor economic situation, which they successfully overcame during their studies by taking part-time or even full-time jobs. The indisputable quality of their final products, which display a high degree of professionalism, knowledge, and reflection, expresses the spirit of our time in an original and sophisticated way," were the words of dean Pepi Sekulich in the catalogue,  accompanying the exhibition.

AVA encourages interdisciplinary research and the use of new media and technologies within a theoretical framework. Study is based on a critical understanding of art within a broad cultural and social context. AVA students are given the tools and experience to work in a wide range of professional artistic environments.

AVA is an independent, non-profit school that constantly seeks to improve the quality of its courses through annual assessments that are conducted by external examiners. Students at AVA are tutored and supervised by artists and lecturers from various European universities. AVA holds a unique position in Slovenia in that its courses are based on the British higher education system. The students and the school have received several Slovenian and international awards for contemporary art, short films, and photography since 2008.
