International group exhibition
The international exhibition, to be curated by the Romanian curator and art critic Raluca Voinea, will present the Suez Canal and “channels” it opens – from its history, regional connections (Trieste, Vienna), to political games that the construction of the canal entailed.
The Suez Canal has also had a significant impact on the environment as well as diplomatic negotiations in the region. The curator treats the canal as a case study that enables us to understand the present moment and how it was shaped through history. However, it also serves the renewed debate on the issue of migration, if the latter is to be seen from the opposite angle. In order for migrants and refugees to become “enemies” to our region, the entire history had to be razed to the ground and erased.
