Bojan Radovič: Replica
The exhibition Bojan Radovič: Replica was accompanied by a comprehensive monograph of the same name. The book is dedicated to the acknowledged Slovenian photographer Bojan Radovič (1960) that for four decades has not only been creating artwork in the medium of photography, dealing extensively with its physical execution, but also addressing its material presence, persistence, and the elusiveness of its meanings and forms.
The accompanying texts to the monograph were contributed by the theoretician, curator and philosopher Dr Marina Gržinić (Institute of Philosophy, ZRC SAZU) and the curator and the director of the Jakopič Gallery Dr Marija Skočir, who also edited the book in collaboration with curator Julia Hoda.
To understand what the book Replica is about, we should think about the photographer, Dr Marina Gržinić pointed out in her text:
»Bojan Radovič is one of the central figures of modern Slovenian photography and its contemporary paths. He was present in the Slovenian art world and in the Yugoslavian space of photography as a photographer and as a brilliant developer of photography, as well as a producer of numerous exhibition projects and thus an organizer of many photographic events. A true companion of the contemporary Slovenian photographic scene, who has been working on the practice of photography for decades, exploring its esthetic and conceptual dimensions and its impossibilities, and has also supported numerous photographers from different generations.«
The monograph and the exhibition emphasize the creative dimensions that most significantly characterize Bojan Radovič’s artistic path and which continue to advance new interrogations of the material, technological, formal, and theoretical postulates of the photographic medium. The monograph presents a total of 18 photographic series by Bojan Radovič, in which the idea of the replica manifests itself on various levels.
