Lighting guerilla: Shimmering

After a few preliminary swings at the 2013 Exodos Festival (Tim Etchells, Matthieu Tercieux) and the Scarecrow project by Marko A. Kovačič and Brane Ždralo along the Path of Remembrance and Comradeship, the Lighting Guerrilla turns on its lights at the already traditional locations in the Ljubljana city centre.

Art Directors Club (ADC) is a non-profit membership organisation with headquarters in New York which has been holding competitions for the best solutions in design and advertising since 1920. This year’s selection is showcased at the 91st ADC exhibition, which is now visiting Slovenia for the fourth time. At the same time, the 10th ADC Young Guns exhibition is also on show.

What the works in this solo exhibition by Neca Falk have in common on the level of ideas is perhaps best conveyed by its very title. Journey into the Void thus primarily stands for a journey into the medium of painting which, in the context of an expanded field of modern artistic practices in Slovenia, has nearly been forgotten and, at the same time, a journey into largely anonymous and/or abstract non-events pertaining to elusive and fluid digital (photographic/video) images.

The exhibition by the legendary graphic designer Heinz Edelmann showcases 45 posters from various stages of the artist's career, spanning more than 40 years, including the widely known poster for the Beatles’ The Yellow Submarine.

Klavdij Sluban's exhibition East to East brings together photographs that he has made during extensive travels in the East, frequently following the route of the Trans-Siberian Railway. Sluban's use of deep blacks and backlit silhouettes embues his work with a highly individual photographic style. These powerful images are remarkably moody and atmospheric and permeated with a strange melancholy and an overwhelming sense of isolation.

Lighting Guerrilla is turning on the lights in different public spaces for the sixth consecutive year already. Parks, streets, galleries and cultural centers for a few weeks yearly beat to the rhythm of lights of this festival, which is every time dedicated to a certain topic. This year it revolves around Movement.

The OHO Award was established in 2005 by the P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E. Institute in collaboration with the Foundation for a Civil Society and with the support of the New York based Trust for Mutual Understanding. The aim of the OHO Award is to support young visual artists and to take them from a marginal social position to a more central role in society, with an emphasis on a positive context based on openness and creativity.
